The festival organizers contact the audience of the show to solicit funds for the kids’ education. In conjunction with the Life and Hope Association of Wat Damnak, the festival organizers arrange for the funds raised to contribute to a year’s worth of education for the kids. In addition to basic tutorial and English lessons, the children will continue their photography practice at a weekly workshop. A goal is integrate the children into the local school system after one year and to bequeath a new group of kids the ongoing benefits of this new organization.
The kids are told that funds have been raised for their education and anticipate the change this might bring to their lives. There is question, however, whether they can stay off the street and maintain their commitment to education against the need to earn money for survival. As incentive for the children to stay off the streets and to attend school, their families are given monthly allotments of food and cooking supplies. School uniforms, notebooks and other hygienic supplies are also provided for.
